CANNONS FOR SALE! « Result #1 on Dec 13, 2009, 10:37am »
The current job situation (furloughs and cutbacks) are forcing us to sell one of our cannons. We are going to try to sell either one of our 10 Pdr. Parrotts or a 12-Pounder Napoleon. Also for sale is a full scale 5.82" bore 24 Pdr. Coehorn Mortar.
The Parrott barrel is a Tredegar Iron Works replica made by Marshall Steen in 2006, is fully rifled, and super accurate. The mate to this piece won 1st place in the 1,000 yard Camp Grayling Bacon Creek Match on July 12, 2009. It comes with a custom carriage made by Miller Wagon & Cannon Company with No. 2 wheels (due to the extra weight of the Confederate barrel) and tapered axles. It comes with a full implement package including front & rear sights (breech style) by Fred Chapman, sponge, rammer with sponge, worm, sponge bucket, prolong, two hand spikes, vent pick, vent gimlet, lanyard, and 500 fresh friction primers. The barrel is mint condition and has only fired 44 live rounds, and the carriage is in very good condition.
The brand new unfired Napoleon is a also a Confederate pattern being made by Spriks Cannon Works (due to be finished in January) with a full size 12 Pdr. bore, and the No. 2 carriage was purchased from PBO in July 2009. This piece comes with a full implement package including sights by Fred Chapman, sponge, rammer with sponge, worm, Walnut round former, sponge bucket, prolong, two hand spikes, vent pick, vent gimlet, lanyard, 500 fresh friction primers, ten HD round tubes, and 60 precision machined 12 lb. solid shot.
Asking price for each cannon is $15,000. The Coehorn barrel is all steel and comes with a Oak bed and is in mint condition (asking price is $3,000.00). You can see pictures of the Parrott at www.batteryd.net. For more info please contact me at batteryd@plazaweb.net
Thank you very much,

Pa. war buff now faces felony cannonball charge
The Associated Press
UNIONTOWN, Pa. - A self-proclaimed Civil War buff now faces a felony charge for accidentally firing a 2-pound cannon ball through the wall of a neighbor's home.
Fifty-four-year-old William Maser, of Georges Township, was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct for the incident Sept. 2. Authorities on Thursday added a felony count of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, before Maser waived his right to a preliminary hearing on all charges.
Maser has acknowledged firing a homemade cannon from his yard about 6 p.m. that day. The ball ricocheted and hit the house about 400 yards away.
Police say nobody was hurt by the cannon ball which slammed through a window and a wall before landing in a clothes closet.

Good Point!
Upon re-examination of my post I'd have to agree w/ artillerybuff, and retract at least part of my previous statement. And though I personally prefer an elongated round, if you're going to make spherical shots, zinc is indeed the perfect idea, as its weight/density is a good substitute for iron.
